Following a set dental hygiene regimen is a vital cog in your overall dental health. Regular brushing, flossing, and rinsing combined with regular dental exams and cleanings will allow you to retain healthy and beautiful teeth. Dr. Janet Stopka and the team at Janet S. Stopka DDS, PC. like to work together with every patient towards excellent oral health. That includes providing helpful dental hygiene tips to her patients in the Burr Ridge, IL area.
Many dental hygiene tips are tried and true. Everybody knows them. Brush at least twice a day. Floss and rinse daily. There are dental hygiene tips that are less obvious. Let us discuss some of those here.
Brushing your teeth at least twice daily may not be helping as much as you think if you are not brushing correctly. When you brush, you need to do so in concentric circles for an entire two minutes. Put on a short song. Set a time. But make sure you are hitting those full two minutes when brushing. If you brush less than that, you will be leaving harmful bacteria behind.
Brushing should not only be about your teeth. When brushing, make sure you are gently brushing the gums as well. Lightly brushing your gums will stimulate blood flow and improve your gum’s overall health.
First, if you floss, good for you. A large number of the population neglect to floss and do not have the oral health they could if they would only floss. But flossing is not enough. You need to floss correctly. Wrap the floss around a tooth in a C shape and then floss up and down. That allows a larger part of the tooth’s surface to be covered. Also, do not forget to floss the back of the tooth and the teeth in the very back of your mouth.
These are just a few oral hygiene tips that you may or may not have heard before. If you seek guidance on the best methods for maintaining a healthy mouth, contact Dr. Janet Stopka today in Burr Ridge, IL. To schedule an appointment, please call (630) 756-5844.
