Achieving a smile that you feel is perfect can be tough, while maintaining that same beautiful smile over the years can seem downright impossible. Even with regular brushing, flossing, and rinsing, your smile can undergo quite a few changes over the years, which can leave it imperfect. Thanks to veneers, which are now both accessible and affordable, you can give your smile that extra boost. With porcelain veneers for teeth, you will be able to preserve your smile for years to come. Dr. Janet Stopka and the team at Safe Dental Smiles in Burr Ridge, IL, have provided veneers to patients with great results.

Porcelain Veneers

A porcelain veneer is a very thin covering that is applied to the front of a tooth to provide a natural look and cover-up imperfections, including:

  • Cracks/chips
  • Discoloration
  • Gaps
  • Size Imperfections

Your porcelain veneer(s) will be created based on customized specifications taken by the dentist working one on one with you. Your custom fit veneer will fit perfectly, be completely comfortable, and provide a natural look once bonded to the front of your teeth.

Receiving Your Porcelain Veneers

Let us take a look at the procedure you will most likely undergo in receiving your porcelain veneers. Initially, your dentist will need to examine your teeth to make sure that porcelain veneers are a suitable option for your teeth. This is done to make sure the procedure can both be performed safely and will be effective.

Once you have been deemed a suitable candidate, x-rays and/or impressions may be taken of your teeth to be used in the manufacturing of your veneers. All of this occurs during your initial visit.

A small, thin layer of your enamel will then be gently removed, and a temporary veneer will be put into place. Once your porcelain veneers are ready, you will return to your dentist so they can be applied. A strong adhesive is used to apply the veneers (your temporary veneers will have been removed by this point), and a special light is used to complete the bonding. Your veneers will match the shade and shape you have discussed with your dentist previously so that you can walk out of their office ready to show your smile off to the world.

What to Expect After

Once the procedure has been completed and your veneers are in place, you might experience some mild tooth sensitivity. It is not all that uncommon, but it is nothing to worry about. The sensitivity should be expected to subside within a week or two. You will be advised to avoid any teeth grinding and not to bite down on hard substances such as hard candy or ice. Maintaining your veneers is amazingly simple. Just treat them as you would your normal teeth. Regular oral hygiene will help keep your veneers in great shape.

Why Are Veneers So Popular?

Veneers have never been more popular among the general public, well-known celebrities and social media personalities. There are many reasons for this. Porcelain veneers provide a range of benefits. Teeth that have worn down or have lost enamel, making them prone to chips or cracks, will receive not only the aesthetic benefit of a veneer but also the protection it provides.

Porcelain veneers are made to provide you with a flawless white smile and to cover up any discolorations and imperfections of your teeth. Veneers are also a wonderful alternative to teeth whitening for those who are sensitive to other forms of treatment.
