Stopka and her dedicated team of professionals work with patients to help them understand the benefits of a beautiful, healthy smile. Our staff encourages patients to learn about general dentistry procedures that are regularly used in our practice to enhance the smile.
What is general dentistry?General dentistry is a term that encompasses most of the routine procedures performed in a dental office. This includes some of the following services:
- Cleanings and examinations – twice a year, patients are encouraged to make an appointment with their dentist for a cleaning and an examination. Examinations may include x-rays from time to time to check the teeth and bone structures.
- Fillings – when cavities are present, it is important to treat them appropriately to keep them from becoming a more serious problem. Our practice is holistic and avoids the use of silver amalgam fillings. Instead, we use tooth-colored composite fillings which not only blend in with the natural tooth enamel, but do not leave patients at risk for mercury toxicity.
- Periodontal treatment – gum disease is a serious issue that can arise within a smile and cause irreparable damage. Dr. Janet S. Stopka offers services to quickly address this problem and get the smile back to health. This may include deep cleanings such as scaling and root planing or less invasive procedures such as periodontal laser therapies.
- Dental crowns – often, a tooth may become weak after undergoing a large filling placement or from damage to the natural structure. This may require a dental crown over the tooth to give it an extra layer of protection. Dental crowns are done same day right in our office using CEREC technology.
We take a holistic approach to dental care. We want to ensure everything done to the smile is safe and biocompatible with the rest of the body. Dr. Janet S. Stopka understands the oral systemic connection and how the health of the mouth can affect the body. Patients with conditions such as periodontal disease may be at a higher risk of developing heart disease, having heart attacks, or even strokes. This can be avoided by keeping the body healthy and also maintaining oral health and wellness.
